Mouse Problems with IBM ThinkPad R31 and Fedora Core 4By Rob Pirozzi IBM ThinkPad R31 ModelType 2676-FU4: Intel Pentium III 1GHz, 256MB RAM, 30GB hard drive, 14.1" XVGA TFT LCD monitor, CD-ROM. Fedora Core 4 InformationFedora Core 4, Linux kernel 2.6.13-1.1532_FC4 Problem DescriptionThe ThinkPad track point mouse exhibits very erratic behavior randomly opening many windows as if the user is continuously clicking the left mouse button. The cursor also jumps around erratically. Problem ResolutionThe kernel parameter i8042.nomux needs to be set to 1 (i8042nomux=1). This can be done on a temporary basis by interrupting the Fedora Core 4 boot and adding i8042nomux=1 to the boot line. A permanent fix would be to edit the /boot/grub/grub.conf file and add the parameter to the boot line. Look for the line in the file that starts with "kernel" (without the ") and add a space and the i8042nomux=1 parameter to the end of the line. Don't forget to save your changes. |
